Day 60: Love One Day At Time

Day 60 Love one day at a time
We tend to focus too much on the future and/or the past, but we can only take care of One day at a time…sometimes one moment at a time. Whatever happened in the past we can’t change and whatever will happen we don’t know. If you want to make a difference in your life you can start today.  Make time for yourself to do something for your health. How about going grocery shopping, cooking for yourself a simple vegetable dish and brown rice, or taking time to sit and meditate for yourself and focus on breathing?   Make each moment count, each day a step toward loving oneself.

This is our last day of the 60 days of comments for New Year New You. I thank everybody for checking them and even sending comments. I really hope these comments have helped or will you in some way like they helped me as I wrote them. With all my heart….Love, Sanae

Day 59 Rest your intestines with “Handanjiki” (a half fasting)

Day 59 Rest your intestines with “Handanjiki” (a half fasting)
Many people tend to eat too much, especially in America where the bigger the serving, the better!  In many places the portions I am served are too large.  How are we able to consume and properly digest so much food? I love to eat, so it is hard for me to resist the sumptuous quantity of food I receive.  Therefore, I do a half fasting which is called “Handanjiki” in Japanese. For one day or a few days I limit what I eat to half of my usual intake; for example, I would have half a bowl of miso soup.  This helps to rest our intestines.  When I do this I feel light and have a clearer consciousness.

Day 58 Start your own organic container gardening

Day 58 Start your own organic container gardening
Have you ever thought about growing your own organic herbs and vegetables, but did not have the yard space? No problem! If you can find a sunny spot to put a 4-inch pot you can grow basil, oregano, sage or even red radishes and scallions. The important thing is to obtain good organic garden soil if you don’t make your own compost with left-over vegetables. Put the soil in the pot, plant seeds or seedlings of your choice and water very well, and set it facing south in a sunny location. You must water it everyday, and you will see how they show start to sprout and grow. The red radishes grow very fast so you will be able to eat them 3~4 weeks after planting the seeds.

Day 57: Understand Universal Foods

Day 57: Understand Universal Foods

After I studied macrobiotics more and more I realized our food is not just “Food” we eat from our mouth. Food is energy – air, light, sun, sky, rain, color, sound, breath, vibration, wind, moon, stars, communications, touch, words, and contact with people, other animals and nature. If you find yourself struggling to change your food choices from conventional to natural and organic , remember these foods also may help you on your personal healing journey.

Day 56: Just do your best

Day 56: Just do your best

No matter what all we can do is our best. It might not be good enough for others, but when you know that you did your best you feel good. Many people get ideas, but they are not able to transform them into reality. The reason can be “don’t want to make a mistake”, but can you imagine your life without mistake in real life? That’s not real. You know in your heart how you really want to live and take care of your health then start living that direction. Get organic vegetables and start to cook your own meals. Use only organic products and join our community class. Just do it!!!

Day 55: What to ask at the restaurant to be vegan or macrobiotic

Day 55: What to ask at the restaurant to be vegan or macrobiotic

If the vegetarian soups have any animal broth, because many times beef or chicken broth is used.
If they could replace the butter with sesame or olive oil.
Ask for salad without cheese.
Ask for pizza without cheese and tomato sauce, just vegetables.
Ask vegetable sushi to be made with rice without added sugar and vinegar.
Ask plain soy or rice milk (unsweetened) instead of cow’s milk.
Ask if they have vegan desserts and what kind of sweetener was used in their desserts.
Ask if they use water filter or not.
Ask for water without ice.
Ask for vegetables to be steamed (instead of fried) even if this option is not listed on the menu.

Day 54: Take Condiments

Day 54: Take Condiments

Have you noticed all the condiments that Seed offers on the table? Condiments add flavor, nutrition, nuance and complexity to whole grains, soup and salad. It is much better to use condiments rather than plain salt on foods. My favorites are Seed’s Gomashio and Ao nori (green nori flakes) which contain calcium, iron, minerals and vitamins and Shiso powder which has sour and tart flavors and alkalizing minerals to your food, as well as aid in digestion.

Day 53: Pick Up Trash When You Can

Day 53: Pick up trash when you see it

Unfortunately, there is so much trash in public areas: beach, streets and some parks. Who leaves this trash??? We, human beings!!! Dogs may leave pooh, but not trash. Pick up your own trash of course, but pick up trash even if it’s not yours. Believe you get richer and fill full inside when you pick up other peoples’ trash and other peoples’ dog pooh. This is a small, kind action which helps globally our earth. Let’s start right now. Join us on Sunday, March 28th at 10am for Seed Community Cleanup (SCC) at seed: 1604 Pacific Avenue, 90291. You get 10% off on your Seed’s food on the day you participate or free remedy making class follow by SCC at 11am.

Day 52: Have a Pet In Your Life

Day 52: Have a pet in your life

There was a survey that people live healthier and longer when they lived with a pet. Now many hospitals, senior homes and even prisons have a therapy dog visit. I really believe and know it since I have had 10 dogs and 3 cats since 1985 and five of them are certified therapy dogs and visiting local senior homes. They give us unconditional love and give us such pure energy and this gives us calm feelings. When pets are healthy they are so happy and make us smile all the time. They understand us because they are living by vibrations so if we are stressed out or sad or happy they feel it. I remember when my father past, I was very sad and not able to sleep. My dogs and cats sat next to me all night to ease my grieving. If you don’t have pets, visit your friends who have them and enjoy life with them.

Day 51: Keys for Communication

Day 51: Keys for Communication

Communication is a challenging skill in our daily life. Even if you had a good attention sometimes people misunderstand and get their feelings hurt or hurt yours. Communicate with yourself, your friends and family and let your feelings and thoughts come out. Especially, when it is a tough time, we really need to talk to our family and/or friends. The number 1 key is ask yourself what you want to communicate and to whom. 2 is find right person and time (not hungry, sleepy, tired, and angry time) and place, number 3 key is sit down and 4 do not react!!
